A new Visual Studio Code extension is announced
by Microsoft, which is also called Web Template Studio. Anyone can easily
create full-stack web applications through a few clicks with this new
extension. Web Template Studio (WebTS) presents a wizard through which web
application can be created quickly. To start the development process, it also
offers ReadMe.md with step by step instructions.
For now, WebTS supports Angular, Vue and React
for front-end development. For the back-end, it supports Node.js and Flask.
Using this extension, the web application created is well-formed, readable code
which includes cloud services on Azure while executing proven patterns and best
practices.
On GitHub, Web Template Studio is open-source.
Anyone can download it for free.
Features
of Web Template Studio
In Web Template Studio, full-stack web
applications are created using three attribute sets which are as follows:
Frameworks:
For now, only three frameworks are supported for
front-end development, i.e. Angular, Vue.js and React.
For back-end development, two frameworks are
supported which is Node.js and Flask. A dependency checker is also provided to
make sure that the required version of Python and/or Node installed.
Application
Pages:
To speed up application creation, several
application page templates are provided which can be used to add common UI
(User-Interface) pages into the new application. The current page templates
include common layouts (*e.g. master detail) and blank page, and the pages
which implement common pattern (*e.g. list, grid). Through this wizard, add as
many of the pages required, giving a name for each one and they will generate
them for us.
Cloud
Services:
The last attribute is that the developer should
specify which Azure cloud services the developer want to use. Then, they will
build out the framework for the services into the application. Presently,
supported services are cover storage (Azure Cosmos DB) and hosting (Azure App
Service).
Once when the developers make the selections they
want and click generate, then they can quickly extend the generated code.
